Fraternity and Sorority
Drug Free Chapter Programs

LISTED IN ORDER OF EFFECTIVENESS

Drug Free Chapter Programs are designed to eliminate or reduce illegal drug use among members of a specific fraternity or sorority chapter through the use of real accountability. Accountability is the most effective, efficient and reliable way to influence and shape positive behavior and promote healthy and safe decisions even under peer pressure to do just the opposite. This accountability is made possible by Psychemedics hair test for drugs of abuse used exclusively by Secure Test Results. Drug Free Chapter Programs vary in structure, policy and implementation and are designed to meet the individual needs of the chapter.

Zero Tolerance

Prior to testing all members are given the opportunity to disaffiliate from the chapter for whatever reason; however, this action forfeits any participation with the chapter during the remainder of their college career. A disaffiliated member may retain membership in the national organization, keep his pin, and return to active participation as an alumnus. Initial testing will be preceded with an extended warning period (minimum of 3 months) enabling all test results to be negative. All students will be tested two or three times a year as determined by the chapter policy with permanent dismissal from the chapter resulting from the first positive result or presumptive positive resulting from a failure to report for testing.

Zero Tolerance, Suspension

All students will be tested two or three times a year as determined by chapter policy with a 100-day suspension from the chapter resulting from the first positive or presumptive positive resulting from a failure to report for testing. Reinstatement is possible by appeal to the Chapter President following the 100-day suspension, a negative Psychemedics drug test, and a majority vote of the chapter. A second positive result or presumptive positive resulting from a failure to report for testing will result in permanent dismissal from the chapter.

Zero Tolerance, Warning

All students (recommended) or a specified random percentage of members will be tested two or three times a year as determined by chapter policy. A warning will be issued following the first positive test result or presumptive positive resulting from a failure to report for testing. A second positive test result or presumptive positive resulting from a failure to report for testing will result in a 100-day suspension. Reinstatement is possible by appeal to the Chapter President following the 100-day suspension, a negative Psychemedics drug test, and a majority vote of the chapter. A third positive or presumptive positive resulting from a failure to report for testing will result in permanent removal from the chapter.

Sweep Testing

No Fault Sweep Test: A single test required of all students affiliated with the chapter without extended warning. Summary results, without names, will be reported only to the client and there will be no resulting individual consequences. The No Fault Sweep is most effectively used to determine the current drug use within a chapter. Failure to report for testing would be interpreted as a presumptive positive for statistical purposes.

Action Sweep Test: A single test required of all students affiliated with the chapter without extended warning. Those students receiving a positive result for illegal drugs or presumptive positive resulting from a failure to report for testing may be placed on probation, suspended, or expelled from the chapter based on client policy. The Action Sweep is most effectively used to determine the current drug use within the chapter and to support any action required by client policy. The Action Sweep usually follows a serious drug related incident. STR receives all results and will report results only to the client. STR will provide result interpretation as needed.
